Welcome Lacie Mae | Newnan, Ga Birth Photographer

This is the start of our sweet little story.  The part where your page meets mine.

Everyone's story deserves to be told.  Part of my job is doing just that.  Its a privledge and a blessing to pause the very moment when a mother is born and in that same second the
very first breath of a new life.
You will never get that day, that moment back.
Birth days are a rush of emotion and there is so much of that day you don't want left behind.  As serious as I am about remembering every moment and documenting our story, I will admit that while I have memories of my children being born- sadly, time can blur some of the details and what a gift it is to have the photos to relive it all.

What a gift, not only to yourself, but to your children.  Most mothers will agree that they didn't know love until they had their child.  What if you could show your child exactly what that expression looks like?  If you could go back and remember and share exactly where your journey together began?

World,  meet Lacie Mae.  This is her birth story.

For those of you considering birth photography or maybe new to the notion, Heather had this to say about her experience as a mother being photographed through labor:

Casey,  you have truly outdone yourself once again.  I could not be happier with the way my birth photos turned out.  I have no idea how you managed to get so many incredible shots without invading my space.  Most of the time I didn't even notice you.  To be honest, I was hesitant to have my birth photographed.  I thought the photos would be something only my husband and I could look at, but I am SO happy that I went for it.  You did an excellent job keeping things perfectly tasteful.  My entire family is able to enjoy them.  You captured so much emotion, so beautifully!  Thank you so much for all of the memories you recorded for me to enjoy over and over again.  I would like to thank you for being a part of that day.  It was so special to have you there and I really enjoyed sharing that experience with you.

Being Her Mother | Newnan, Ga Lifestyle Photographer

mother daughter, newnan photographer, senoia photographer, lifestyle photographer, mommy blog, casey green, casey green photography, styled shoot, child styled shoot,

This little girl scares me.  Seriously. Busting at the seams with personality at only two years old.  Her head is held high, she moves with an air about her, and fears nothing.
Every day she has been with me I have closed my eyes at night and said a thousand "thank yous" to God for knowing my heart, better than myself.  If I am brutally honest, I wept... like ugly wept... when the ultrasound confirmed she was a girl.  (which reminds me I never wrote that doctor a sorry note)  I thought I never wanted a daughter.  It hurts to write that and I have erased it and rewrote it four times before deciding to go with it.  I am big on gratefulness- there is always someone, somewhere who would be happy with less than what you have.  I try not to squander or be ungrateful, my child wasn't & isn't unloved, she just wasn't what I had planned for... We were and are grateful for our child.  Please don't read this and think otherwise, that isn't the case.

Life had a rhythm- then bam! ready or not, here is another child.  My life was full and brimming over the top with love for my son.  Being an only child made the idea of a sibling such a foreign thought, that I cried thinking I was doing something that would hurt my son.  Hurt our bond.  How would he understand that I have two babies?  How would he understand me loving another person?  Can you love two babies the same?  Can it be the same intense and all consuming force that is there for the first one?

I had a toddler and I was pregnant with my husband gone at training... A lot was on my plate.  New husband, new home, new job for my husband, no job for me.  Life was full of changes, big ones.  With any change worth making, there will be some discomfort.
Fast forward, my daughter was a week late and my husband had just came home from training for good... we joke that she was waiting on her Daddy because she came abruptly within 24 hours of him being home.

Silly, silly, me.  I didn't know any better.
My love for them is as fierce and forceful as it is for the other.  They are different people and we bond in different ways, but the story is the same.  I am their mother, they are my precious, sweet gifts and I will not let one day go by that I don't fall on my knees and give thanks for them.  I will bend and break for them...
Move mountains for them.

My son is and will be a better person one day because he is a big brother, he is a sibling.  Not to say us only children are getting the short end of the stick, but there is nothing mean or unfair about bringing another soul into our family to love and share this journey.
She is a part of my story, that perhaps I didn't see coming.  Her small, round, chubby self compels me to squeeze and kiss her constantly.  She has me laughing out loud every time I turn around, she blows me away with the things she says.

mother daughter, newnan photographer, senoia photographer, lifestyle photographer, mommy blog, casey green, casey green photography, styled shoot, child styled shoot,

To me, she is perfect in every way.
She came here as an old soul.  Intelligent, funny, confident, loving... I am scared, so very scared that I won't be able to keep her as she is.  Happy, blissfully happy every day and that word.. confident...
Being a mother to a little girl means you are her main example of a woman. Its your job to show her what we are all about.  What a daunting task!  In my mind, women have always been these multi- dimensional, powerful, and for lack of better descriptive words- forces of nature.
There are so many things to be, to show her, to teach her.

To have grace and class, yet a playful soul.
How to wear heels and till a garden.
To bake muffins from scratch and bring home bacon as well.
Play sports, get messy and how to shop for clothes and properly put on eyeshadow.
How will I teach her to hold on to that confidence?

In a world that doesn't value a woman - a real woman, the way it should?

How can I help her skip the middle years of self doubt and insecurities?

Is there a way to teach her not to sweat the silly 'relationships' in school & make her understand that, that moment is so temporary- that there is a big, long, beautiful life ahead?

mother daughter, newnan photographer, senoia photographer, lifestyle photographer, mommy blog, casey green, casey green photography, styled shoot, child styled shoot,

Daughter, don't waste one second putting down your body.  It was made from scratch within me.  There is nothing on earth that I am more proud of than having made and delivered two children & then sustained them with my own milk.  My body knows what it is doing, it is this functioning, amazing miracle.  Our bodies deserve all the love and respect we can give them.  Feed yourself well, move your body, put good in - get good out.

Can I teach her to not hate me, because I really am acting in her best interest...
Can she be taught to not except less than what she knows she deserves?

My sweet daughter,
always hold your head high... it doesn't matter if you know every one in the room is judging or watching you, you walk- chin up,
Know that you can articulately put someone in their place,
that you can crush someone with your words, but you don't.
You treat everyone with love.
with respect- as long as they do the same.
When they don't- you be bigger- you be better.
You worry about you and do whats best for you.

Realize that you can go whatever direction you want.
You belong to no one.

You are that amazing, you are that bold, that strong.
You can fall, you can fail- and you don't have to be rescued.
Spend time being single- it is the greatest gift you will give yourself.

Create yourself and put away all that noise telling you otherwise.
Find a man that compliments you- you the way you are and the way you want to be.

Trust in the Lord, look at what he has done in your mother's life.
Do not settle for a man who doesn't know how to handle a strong woman- because you are one.
You're as independent as you want to be

Know how to apologize.

Be a lady,
but be a boss

You have two hands and two feet and are beyond intelligent.
You are blessed and you are loved.

I want her to love herself. Real love.  Not just when she is having a good hair day or when things are going her way, but love when the sun isn't shining, love even when others walk out.

How can she skip the in between that her mother had to fight through to get to the other side?  She won't and she can't.  If I think back, I wouldn't trade any of it.  The strength found from going through a heavy life event, or learning a hard lesson is golden.  Honestly, I treasure it.  Wisdom is earned through time and trials.  I say it all the time that parents who shield their children from real world struggle are doing them a disservice.  This anxiety I have about being a perfect example so she can breeze through the rough parts is well... going to make it harder for her.  It is ok for her to see me fail.  See me struggle with stress and drop the ball.  See me cry over burnt spaghetti.  These are all things that will build her into the woman she will become one day.  For all the bad she will see, she will see the good.  The kissed boo boos, the patience, the apologies, the spontaneous dance parties, the joy that I have to offer her.

mother daughter, newnan photographer, senoia photographer, lifestyle photographer, mommy blog, casey green, casey green photography, styled shoot, child styled shoot,

She is going to cry because some boy (who won't be good enough for her ) kissed some girl.
Probably will date a few guys I hate.  That her Daddy and big brother will really hate.
They'll be curfews pushed.
Eyes rolled.
Tears shed.
Doors slammed.

She is my daughter.  She will have my arms wrapped around her and my ear and shoulder anytime she wants them.  I will be everything I need to be, I am enough.
Having a daughter forces you to take stock of your own self love & confidence.  I had to take inventory of my personal feelings on the matter.  My mother was and is an amazing woman with large shoes to fill... Our bond was intense and she has been my best friend from the start, she is a great mother.  Maybe my daughter didn't scare me.  Maybe thinking I wasn't a good enough example to this person I loved more than life itself scared me.  That I couldn't be all the things my mom was to me, to my daughter.  How could I be good enough for this person I want to blossom into all that I know she is?...  But I am enough and I do deserve her.

I sing to her all the time, because she loves to sing!  She asks for the "moon" song... I sing the chorus over and over, but the ending is what I love the most.
"it seems to me, that God above created you for me to love.  He picked you out, from all the rest because he knew I'd love you best."

I AM ENOUGH.

Singing Frozen songs, playing dress up, eating fake sandwiches, and carrying around her and her life sized baby doll is all I have to do today.  There is this grand adventure of having a daughter that I am going to soak up. We will get to the more complicated parts later, but something tells me they will all work out.

This is my little girl and she is everything and more.
My daughter makes me proud.
This fool would not be complete without her...
When she was born I posted, "my cup runneth over."  It does daily with her in it.
There will never be another one like her again.

this blog | Newnan, Ga Lifestyle Photographer

This blog is written over many, many cups of coffee and happy tears, in between naps, in the carpool line, in Starbucks, and beside my stove top.  There possibly is a glass of red wine in there somewhere as well...

I am the weirdo hogging the leather chair in the corner of the coffee house, covering her face so you can't see me crying while writing my latest birth session.  For the record- I was not a cryer.  Having littles broke my tear ducts and they now weep when things are happy, joyful, abundant, or beautiful.  Don't ask me why.  I don't know.

When I set out to do my blog, I thought that I had to write about my photo sessions and only my photo sessions.  Don't get me wrong.  My sessions move me to happy dances and happy tears.  I come back home on cloud nine, rambling to Hubs around how much I loved my session, loved the clients, loved the location...  I get fired up and want to take on the world and write a novel about my session... but there is this whole other wonderous journey happening behind the scenes that I want to share too.

When you look at my work, or at least what I think you see when you look at it, is my heart really is written all over the photos of my children.  The lifestyle / photojournalistic style that I naturally use when photographing my family is my favorite form of photography.  I want to share that.  I want to share my crazy/beautiful roller coaster ride called motherhood.  When they drive me to wits end, when they drive me to my best, when they drive me to joy...  Maybe a blog about my kid's being wild and at times losing their ever lovin' minds will make you feel a little better... I know hearing another mom tell me- that "it is [OK], mine are wrecking balls too," makes me breathe a sigh of relief.  There are times when I feel like the worst mother in the world and confess my mommy guilt until they interrupt me and say "are you crazy, we have all been there.  You are normal.  You are doing a good job.  You are enough."    Isn't that we all need now and then?  When I am hiding behind this screen pecking away at the keys- I am envisioning a mom being weighted down, sipping her reheated coffee, and shaking her head saying "that is so me." There are times when I am Superwoman, Martha Stewart, and Betty Crocker all rolled into one- despite what you see on Instagram and Facebook- there is room to be both super mommy and tired mommy.  I want to share my super cute, nutritious snacks as well as laugh about the days where we have watermelon, chocolate milk, and sushi (they like it).  I want to share my craftiness, as well as my Pinterest fails..

I've come across sayings, blogs, articles, other moms who have given me a lifesaver when I thought I was sinking.  A simple sentence, a kind word, a story you can look back and laugh at now- have all been monumental, though they didn't seem like it.  I have clung to them & been thankful for them.  Pay it forward- one of those mottos I want to live by & teach my littles.  Support flooded in when I transitioned into motherhood and again when I welcomed my second child so by sharing my crazy, laughable days filled with snuggles, holy messes, three meals, cold coffee, laundry piles, and playground dates I hope to do the same.

So, long story short.  This blog is about...
my photography
my littles
honest motherhood
lots of fun
a little crafting
a dash about decorating
yummy food
this crazy/beautiful life I love

My Sunshine | Newnan, Ga Lifestyle Photographer

" you'll be...
his first kiss
his first love
his first friend.
you are his momma and he is your whole world.
he is your little boy."

My sweet, sweet boy.  I can't believe how quickly he is growing up. My heart is torn between being fascinated by watching him grow and being devastated that he is growing up.  Each month still holds new feats and milestones, but on the other hand, each month says goodbye to old ones.  Ones that I love, that I've grown accustomed to.  Mispronounced words have become clearly spoken.  Jumbled up sentences, full of long pauses, have unscrambled themselves into matter of fact statements, demands, and questions.  Oh, the questions.  He can't drink up enough of the world around him.  Every single tangible and imaginable thing holds an endless slew of questions.

Why does hair grow?
Why does it rain?
Why do we have to tell God thank you?
Why do people be bad?
Why do we have to have the trees?
Why can't I just eat "smarshmallows?"
Where's that truck going?
Where's that man going?
Why the garbage man just take our garbage?
Why does the other side of the "wo-wold" get a turn with the sun?
Why is Easter gone?

No day is left unquestioned... Everyone in my family says its payback.  They all get a chuckle out of it because they said I asked "why" so many times it was unbearable.  I actually remember that I was banned from that word- so I came up with "how become." ;)

I do love the here and now.  Of course this is no fairy tale.  He is 3. He still jumps up and down when I say "no shows." He smacks his sister. Daily.  He still drinks his bath water. Refuses to eat his dinner.  He visits the time out bench. Daily.  He has his mother's will and stubborn mind- you will say his name no less than a thousand times. Daily... and I love it all.

He has an engineer's mind.

You can't have doughnuts in this house- he will climb on counters, sneak into cabinets, and hide under tables to eat them.   He doesn't care about the punishment.  Its worth it to him.

He remembers everything. Mind like a steel trap or an elephant or whatever. He will freak you out with every detail he can recall from times you thought he wasn't paying attention or was too little to remember.

Second name, Magellan.  He can direct you anywhere he has been before. He can even navigate some spots in Atlanta. His mind has always "seen" paths.  Even as a little tiny baby, he had the layout of a 23,000 square foot office mapped out mentally.

Such a sweet heart. He randomly looks at me, holds my cheek, and says "I very like you mommy." To be "very liked" is the highest compliment you can get from him. (my other favorite compliment was when he told his friend "you want to eat at my house? my mom is a good cooker.")

"cheese makes me happy"

Favorite color is green.

Refuses to use a blanket, because "mommy will just keep me warm."

His imagination is vast and wild.

Oh, its a silly thing to be sad over. Its just a fourth birthday, right?  Its just... I remember the first time I saw him.  I was in an art college, living alone, spending my days working on my art and hanging out with my best friend.  When I realized I was pregnant I was scared obviously, but when I was lying on an exam table staring at the ceiling and the sonographer said "and theres your baby."  I looked over at the screen and tears, without my permission came pouring down my face.  They were happy tears.  I told her he was a boy, she looked at me kind of crazy. Of course he was tee-tiny.  He resembled an odd shaped pea pod, but I knew.  Same with his name, no back & forth.  It just was. Its like he has always been written into my story.

Through my pregnancy with Maddox, I found a strength I didn't realize lived in me.  The world unfolded and became clearer- I knew what I wanted to be for him and what I didn't.

I literally reached down, put my hands around his tiny body, and pulled/pushed him into this world.  The bond between me and this little being is so deep, so strong, that he hurts and I physically feel my body weaken.  He cries and I feel my throat tighten.

When he was born, I posted- "how wonderful life is, now you're in the world."  So true.  This place is a little brighter with his dimpled smile in it.

I think also, because my dreams are simultaneously coming true it brings me back to the beginning.  When you make strides forward, or at least when I do, I like to take a look back and see where I came from. I am learning to let that be my "measuring stick" versus the competitors around me.  You know where the fuel to push my photography business came from honestly?  There I was a single mom, a girl with her degree on pause, living with her mom, and the only one in this world responsible for this little person.  I was up walking the floor with a colicky baby, sleep deprived, and on about the 50th round of "you are my sunshine..."  Its like it was yesterday.  I looked down at him and told him "I am going to be someone you can be proud of one day."  There is nothing and no one that will stop me from keeping that promise.
Hard work, late nights, and a lot of coffee later... here I am.  I still have a long, long way to go to reach the goals I have set, but I am on my way.

I love my little boy something fierce.  I guess the sadness comes from saying goodbye to this precious and quickly fleeting stage in his life.  There are so many changes he will make.  Many, many more birthdays ahead.  A whole lifetime to celebrate.  The excitement of the future outweighs saying goodbye to the past in the end.

Can you imagine when its his first day of kindergarten?  Someone is going to have to sedate me.  Haha :)
